May 31 to June 7th - The University of New Brunswick (UNB) in Fredericton, NB, hosted the Canada Wide Science Fair. Canada Wide Science Fair is a national competition where students compete for scholarships and prizes, and get to experience a different province through tours, labs, and meeting others from across Canada who are passionate about STEM projects. Gladmar Regional School (GRS) was honoured to have a student attend this event this year, alongside the GRS math and science teacher. Amy and her project on oil spill remediation and Mrs. Metherell, the delegate for the group, travelled alongside a student from Oxbow school, Mikki, and her project on clubroot in canola. Both projects represented Southeast Saskatchewan with great pride. We learned so many amazing things about how youth in STEM are changing the world. The experience has undoubtedly changed how we approach science fairs and highlighted the importance of fostering inquiry in youth!

Madison Cameron is a specialist in the mental, emotional, and behavioral aspects youth are facing due to the impact of Social Media use. Her presentation for parents and caregivers focusses on the range of emotions children are experiencing and how their wants and needs are the same as the wants and needs their parents/caregivers had when they were children. The presentation will look at the adult perspective and how incorporating thoughtful strategies can strengthen connections with those lost in their devices.

South East Cornerstone Public School Division will support wherever possible the lowering of flags on school buildings today in recognition of the National Day of Mourning. Each year in Canada an average of 1,000 workers are killed on the job and hundreds of thousands of others are either injured or suffer illnesses as a result of workplace related diseases. The National Day of Mourning was established in 1991 to mourn for those who died, but also to re-enforce the commitment to continue to fight for a healthy and safe workplace. Gladmar Regional School hosted their local science fair on Thursday, March 27th. There were 30 projects total from grades 6-8 and grades 11-12 students. The projects ranged from which brand of popcorn pops the best to solving oil spills and DNA mapping cattle herds. Students proudly presented their projects to six local community judges as well as their families, students, and community guests. Ten projects will move on to Regional Science Fair in Estevan, good luck! (Click the title to view more pictures.)

Win $15,000 for your school! The Saskatchewan School Boards Association and The Mosaic Company are pleased to announce that the Mosaic School Nutrition Challenge is now open to all Saskatchewan schools. The Mosaic Challenge encourages grassroots initiatives to promote student nutrition and healthier school environments through nutrition-related activities and programming. Ten successful applicant schools will be selected to receive funding amounts of $15,000 each for a total of $150,000 in funding. Click the title to access further information and to apply.

It was a stellar season for Gladmar Regional School (GRS) curlers Amy and Andie. Pairing up for the inaugural SHSAA Doubles curling competition, the sister duo advanced to provincials going undefeated through Conference and Regional play. The provincial competition eventually found them in the gold medal game against their rivals from Oxbow who had beat them earlier in the day. It was a close, hard-fought game, but the team from GRS were victorious and took provincial gold!! Congratulations to the Amy, Andie and coaches Stephanie and Susan.

Gladmar Regional School is proud to have Amy and Andie represent the school at the Doubles Curling Provincials in Prince Albert on March 7 and 8. They have won both Conferences and Regionals. Congratulations and good luck at Provincials! (Click the title for a second photo.)
